Ma'an'shan is about an hour from Nanjing - the End User in the Ma'an'shan Gaoke High performance Magnetic Materials Factory. The Process is manufacturing high grade magnetic powder which is eventually pressed into various shapes for use in small electric motors. The equipment is a pair of Rotary Kilns sold by ABB Raymond, with Combustion Equipment by North American Mfg. Co. The Fuel is Heavy Oil - unfortunately it was not even close to the specification. Analysis indicated a viscosity of 6000 SSU at 200 Deg. F and a flash point of 570 deg. F! Also encountered were significant water and low boilers. While it was possible to easily ignite the Burners (once the 18 ga Lamp Cord Electrical Supply Wiring was exchanged for something better) and bring the Process up to temperature, maintaining stable temperature control was another story - because the equipment was designed for #6 Oil. The Fuel had to be heated to a temperature that exceeded the boiling point of the Low Boilers. The Fuel Control System dutifully delivered a measured volume of Fuel, but the density of this Fuel varied wildly with water and Low Boiler concentration. The Fuel, after heating, was being delivered in a form that literally resembled black shaving cream. The Plant switched to a grade of Fuel resembling ASTM #6 and this problem eventually disappeared. |
